Drakewalls Cornwall

Gunnislake 1 mile
South East Cornwall

SOLD Freehold

Drakewalls is thought to have originated as a trading crossing high up on the banks of the River Tamar, connecting the waterways with the railway links to the city of Plymouth. Located approximately a mile above the bridge crossing and border between Devon and Cornwall at Gunnislake, it stands in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Tamar Valley was designated as a World Heritage Site in 2006.

Tucked away, just off the crossing and literally a stone’s throw from the amenities of this thriving community (including Pearces Service Station & supermarket) it commands a breath-taking view of this expansive landscape from its principle rooms. Originally part of a cul-de-sac off Sandhill, in 1994 a new railway station was built for Gunnislake, and these improvements bought about the new private drive off Station Road.

This new railway station, along with a bus stop connecting Tavistock & Callington, situated over the road a short distance from the bottom of the garden, is an exceptional bonus to the convenience of life in this location. The Tamar Valley Line run by Great Western Railway has up to 9 return journeys a day connecting the ocean city of Plymouth via what has to be one of the UK’s most scenic train trips.

With its garage and additional level parking at its roadside, this traditionally constructed post war three bedroom detached bungalow sits, with stepped access to a rear paved courtyard, tucked towards the top of its delightful landscaped garden plot which gives way to an exceptional panoramic view over the Tamar Valley towards the tors of the Dartmoor National Park.

The interior accommodation is set over a single level and is entered from the courtyard via a 1970s addition of a double aspect fitted kitchen. This leads through to the dining room which in turn opens into the sitting room. Being double aspect it’s bathed in natural light from a pair of patio doors which lead out to a paved terrace and giving way to the commanding view.

A passageway off to the left leads to the sleeping accommodation passing the front door hallway. The main bedroom enjoys the view out over the garden and offers scope for en-suite provision. The two further good sized bedrooms overlook the sheltered rear courtyard. At the far end is a fully-tiled family bathroom with heated towel rail; over-bath shower and w.c. which is functional but requiring updating.

The garden has been thoughtfully landscaped and the surrounding spaces around the property well-conceived. There is an impressive full width terrace, from which to take in the view. Steps lead down to a lower section of lawned garden augmented with a well-chosen selection of woody plants for a long season of interest that includes Camellia, Rhododendron, Magnolia and Hydrangea. Paved pathways lead around the property off which are an 8’×6’ aluminium greenhouse, 4’×6’ timber garden shed and a range of compost bins and water butts.
